Where will games be held?
Games will be held at Macombs Dam Field on 161st Street across the street from Yankee Stadium. The field is not visible from 161st Street because it is above a parking garage. You can map to 1 E 161st Street. If you plan on driving, please check the New York Yankees and New York City FC schedule. Many street parking signs will note that you cannot park on event dates. You are encouraged to take public transportation if possible (4 train, B/D train).
How will the tournament work?
There will be two divisions, Competitive and Casual, with at least two groups each. Games will be 7 v. 7 (6 outfield players and a goalie), played on small-sided fields (approximately 60 yards x 40 yards). Goals are 6 ft x 12 ft. Each team is guaranteed three games. The winning teams will advance to a knockout round to play for the SBU Charity Cup.
How long are the soccer games?
Games will last 30 minutes, with each team guaranteed to play at least 3 games. Games may begin as early as 8:30 AM ET.
How many players per team?
Games are 7 v. 7 (6 outfield players and a goalie). Registered teams must have at least 5 players on the field to play. Team registration includes up to 11 players. Teams can add up to 13 players for an additional fee of $50 per player. Team cannot exceed 13 players in total for the tournament (for example, you cannot replace a player between games).
What shoes should I wear?
Macombs Dam Field is a turf field. Turf shoes, flat shoes, or soccer cleats are all appropriate. Screw-ins or metal cleats will not be allowed.
What do the winners get?
Besides the fuzzy feeling inside from helping others, winners will get to lift the Charity Cup Trophy and win eternal bragging rights as the best soccer team in NYC. Win or lose, everyone gets an exclusive event t-shirt!
Is the Charity Cup co-ed?
The Charity Cup invites both men & women to take the field. All teams can be made up of any number male & female players and there are no requirements for minimum number of either. Teams concerned about the level of play or competitiveness are encouraged to register for the Casual Division.
Any special rules?
To have fun! We're all here because we love soccer in NYC and want to raise money for a great cause, so offensive language or behavior will not be tolerated. There is also no slide tackling allowed in the Casual Division.
What paperwork is required?
All participants MUST complete the waiver and player registration form at the event. Please ensure you denote which team you will play with on the waiver or add "TBD" for free agents!
Where do I pick up my shirt?
Shirts will be distributed at the event.
